The Power of Sketching & Drawing – to capture a memory forever
Whenever I go through my many sketchbooks, each containing sketches and drawings made over the years, I am immediately taken back to that time – such is the power of sketching and drawing.
These are visual journals – words in pictures, but so much more than that – they also depict the emotions of the moment, or the characteristics of the event or scene. I can recall all this and so much more, because I had to closely observe the subject, to capture its essence.
Such as the time when we had taken a group of artists for a painting week in Portugal and something that happened on one particular day, when we were all out and about painting in Estoi Palace.

The Gift of Sketching & Drawing – to Last a Lifetime
The simplest of sketches can be jotted down on a scrap piece of paper, with whatever you have to hand by way of a drawing tool – the result doesn’t matter. It is what that sketch comes to signify, which is important – whether it serves as a visual memory, or as an inspiration for a painting.
That first sketch can lead to a lifetime of creativity, which is therapeutic on so many levels – I should know, for it is through my earliest of sketches, as a very young child, that my passion for creating artworks began - a passion that not only forged my professional life, but also stimulates my every waking day.
A passion that Eileen and I are thrilled to share through our art tutorials – a passion to last a lifetime.
We thank you for reading our latest news and for your continued interest in our work and, as ever, send best wishes, from Eileen and myself,”
